Madrones are so attractive because they look so different from other trees. They have these waxy, almost ceramic-looking tree trunks, with beautifully peeling bark. They provide habitat for all kinds of creatures, for example the Cedar Waxwing and the Ringtail. Their berries are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, and native americans used them for treating sore throats, upset stomachs, and skin problems.
