Humberto González was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 10. He studied at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, earning a B.A. in Art and Spanish Literature, followed by an M.A. in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Art. He moved to Oregon to teach Spanish and Art from 1971 until his retirement in 1999, at which time he returned to painting full time. He was a friend of the late Nelson Sandgren, and a regular at the annual Oregon coast plein-air outings that Sandgren organized.
González exhibits his watercolors frequently throughout Oregon and beyond. He has won numerous awards in juried group shows and has served as a juror for OSU's Art About Agriculture exhibit three times. He's been showing with Karin Clarke Gallery since 2004.
His paintings are lush and colorful, and like the best plein-air work, they provide a vivid impression of the location while capturing its spirit.
