Icons of Nature

New work by Olga Volchkova

October 26 - November 26 (CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY)

First Friday Artwalk, November 4, 5:30-7:30 pm

Karin Clarke Gallery is pleased to present new and original work by Eugene artist Olga Volchkova. Icons of Nature  is a continued exploration of Volchkova's love of plants, celebrating their magical, historical, and benefitial qualities. One of the themes she presents in a large piece is Plants and Science,  dedicated to plants that inspired scientific discoveries. Like all of Volchkova's work, it raises our understanding of how nature works, and how plants have helped humans to survive.

An example from the exhibit is Saint Basil , featuring the largest family of local anesthetics, which emerged from the discovery of eugenol in herbs and spices, including cloves and basil. Science and nature are celebrated in the most beautiful way, as is only fitting.

Volchkova is well known for a year-long exhibit launched in 2016 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in Eugene, and her Karin Clarke Gallery show in the spring of 2019. Earlier this year she had an exhibition at the Schneider Museum of Art in Ashland. OPB's Oregon Art Beat, did a major feature on her, which was nominated for an Emmy. Upcoming publications include a feature in the new volume from Taschen entitled Plant Magick.

Meet her on the First Friday Artwalk, November 4, 5:30-7:30 pm. This is a show not to be missed!
