Craig Spilman American, 1938

Craig Spilman retired in 2002 from Lane Community College, where he taught drawing, paintings and printmaking for over 30 years. Prior to that, he was an instructor at Maude Kerns Art Center, and has shown extensively throughout Oregon and in several international exhibits.

Spilman is best known for his skillfully rendered monochromatic drawings and monoprints of the Willamatte Valley. His work is full of energy, texture and rhythm. With pencil and paper he creates an incredibly luminous range of values, capturing both the subtleties and drama of cloud formations and the softness of Oregon's winter landscape.
