Press Release:

Washington-based, contemporary realist painter, James Kroner presents his second solo show at Karin Clarke Gallery. Known for his strong emphasis on composition, mood, light and atmosphere, Kroner's oil paintings draw a lot of interest on the national art scene.

His work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows since 2006 and he continues to expand his professional horizons. Currently, he leads workshops on plein air painting in Europe and in the US.  He will conduct a two-week course in Tuscany this summer. Gallery owner Karin Clarke traveled to northern Italy to study plein-air painting in a workshop led by Kroner in 2017.  She was impressed with his work and has been eager to bring his work to the Eugene audience since that time.

James Kroner, born in 1978 in San Francisco, grew up in the suburbs of San Mateo, California, and was interested in art and creative expression from a young age. Kroner started taking formal art classes at the College of San Mateo in his early twenties. This experience so inspired him that he switched his educational focus from philosophy to art.

In 2005, Kroner began studying painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He later received recognition at the Annual Spring Shows, and received awards, including First Place for Landscape Painting 2010, and a full scholarship for the Study Abroad Program in Italy in the summer of 2011. He received his BFA and MFA in Drawing/Painting from the Academy of Art, San Francisco, in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
