In Genesis, three mysterious visitors appear to Abraham beneath The Oak of Mamre. I was thinking, maybe it was getting dark, and Abraham mistook three oak trees for angelic visitors :-) ... after all, oaks look like giant, impressive people. Oregon's oak savanna habitat used to be maintained by local tribes. They burned the underbrush to nurture camas to grow. Camas was a major source of stable starch. Oaks don't block the shade of camas. And the burns don't affect the long roots of even small oaks.
