Olga Volchkova Russian/American, b. 1970
When I visited the Jedediah redwoods, I immediately felt the presence of a great spirit. The natives who lived here (the Tolowa, Yurok, Hula, and others) understood this, and respected this presence. I could imagine those people living peacefully within this forest community, without hurting it, for thousands of years. The painting contains the little miracles I encountered that day: glowing tree trunks, an owl flying nearby, and sparkling dew drops trapped in spider-webs.
