Return to the Chateau - Interiors and landscapes from a recent residency in France.

June 29 - July 30, 2022

Representing Northwest artists at her gallery since 2002, Karin Clarke has only recently began painting and exhibiting her work more seriously. Inspired by various residencies and trips to the coast, her paintings are often softly-lit studies of the places, people, and creatures she has encountered. She hopes to convey a sense of intimacy and romance in her pieces; capturing moments of introspection and appreciation.

Her background includes painting workshops with contemporary realist painter James Kroner and printmaking workshops with Rick Bartow, Frank Jansen and William Park. In the 1990s, she studied painting with Ron Graff at the University of Oregon and Adam Grosowsky at Lane Community College, among others. She has traveled to Italy to paint numerous times with her artist mother, Margaret Coe. She has had three shows of her work at her gallery, and has participated in numerous shows around Oregon. In 2015 she won a Juror's Choice Award at the Mayor's Art Show for her monotype "Away."

In 2021, she was invited to attend two artist in residence programs: The Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig, Ireland, and Chateau Orquevaux, in Orquevaux, France, where she continued her tonalist works of European interiors and landscapes.
