Featured Stop: Interview with Kroner at 6:30pm
Karin Clarke Gallery welcomes Bay Area artist and art teacher James Kroner to Eugene. Known for his strong emphasis on composition, mood, light and atmosphere, his oil paintings are drawing a lot of interest on the national art scene.
James Kroner, born in 1978 in San Francisco, grew up in the suburbs of San Mateo, California, and was interested in art and creative expression from a young age. Kroner started taking formal art classes at the College of San Mateo in his early twenties. He was so inspired by this experience that he switched his educational focus from philosophy to art.
In 2005, Kroner began studying painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He later received recognition at the Annual Spring Shows, and received awards, including First Place for Landscape Painting 2010, and a full scholarship for the Study Abroad Program in Italy, Summer 2011. He received his BFA in Drawing/Painting in 2010, and his MFA in Drawing/Painting from Academy of Art, University San Francisco, in 2013.
His work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows since 2006 and he continues to expand his professional horizons. Currently, he leads workshops on plein-air painting in Europe and in the US. In May, 2017, Karin Clarke traveled to northern Italy to study plein-air painting as a participant in a workshop led by Kroner. Inspired by his sensitive approach to capturing the mood and light of a landscape, she is thrilled to bring his work to Eugene.
Kroner will speak at 6:30 as part of the Art Walk tour on February 2nd.. Come meet this rising art star!
